About Garden Bureau

Garden Bureau publishes zone-specific planting guides for New Zealand. It is published by Virgola Limited, a New Zealand company building practical gardening guides and planning tools.

Most gardening advice online is generic — written for somewhere else, or written for nowhere in particular. We write for specific climate zones, with specific timing and practical growing notes that match the conditions gardeners are actually working with.

We're NZ-first. Canterbury frost dates are different from Auckland's. What works in temperate coastal NZ doesn't work in the cool/mountain zones. We cover those differences because they're the difference between a harvest and a failure.

Our long-term goal is to build one of the most comprehensive gardening resources available: useful planting calendars first, then garden planning and management features once there are enough gardeners using the site to shape them properly.

How we make guides

Garden Bureau guides are assembled from gardening references, supplier growing information, public growing resources, and our own planting-window database. Articles are reviewed by a gardening enthusiast before publishing, with a focus on practical usefulness rather than repeating generic advice.

We do not claim to have personally grown every plant mentioned on the site. Where experience matters, we try to separate observed gardening judgement from sourced planting information, and we keep improving articles as the underlying data and research improve.

Commercial disclosure

Garden Bureau does not currently use affiliate links. If we add affiliate relationships later, they will be disclosed clearly and will not decide what we recommend.
